The classic symbol of the Middle Ages is a knight in shining armor and with weapons in their hands. The formation of a knight’s culture is directly linked to the feudal system. This is because warriors often became feudal lords, thanks to the monarch’s faithful service, who gave them land and money. However, the order of Templars was utterly different. They had no right to possess wealth and properties. These knights were very modest in life. But the knight weapons of this order worth attention. A Templar sword gained considerable popularity. Even nowadays a lot of people are obsessed with the idea of getting it.
Who could become a knight?
Not every man could become a knight. The first reason for this was social status. Only rich people had this possibility. Secondly, every future knight has trained from birth. Thirdly, being a knight is not only about the physical shape and status in society but also about education. Every warrior had to be well educated. People of this time paid particular attention to this issue.
How did look the medieval knight’s weapons?
When people imagine English knight, they are convinced that it should be a man in heavy armour. But in reality, the armour was not so weighty because it had to provide mobility and flexibility during the battle.
However, the knight’s weapons were weighty. The most important weapon was a spear. It began to be made from three and a half meters in length and weigh up to 18 kilograms. The jar is usually made of beech.
The sword of the medieval knight over time was least subjected to changes. The only thing that has changed to this type of weapon was its size. A bit later, two-handed swords appeared. It was impossible to hold it with one hand. It was much longer, and, consequently, much heavier than the ordinary
sword. With the use of the two-handed sword, the opponent had no chance for a victory.
There were also axes. But, over time, they were used less and less frequently. As a result, the battle and simple axes turned into exclusively tournament types of weapons.
If medieval knight weaponry such as a sword, a shield, and a spear were modified the least, the armour gradually evolved over the centuries. It had changed from the early Middle Ages. In the 14th century had found out some alters in the form and size of it.
The era of knights ended shortly after the appearance of firearms. Bullets easily beat even the best armour, so wearing heavy armor has become inappropriate. Despite this, the knights forever remain in the hearts of people, symbolizing honour and dignity.
